CINQUANTENAIRE PARK

This vast complex of gardens, punctuated by monuments and museums, is dominated by a three-arched triumphal arch. It is one of Brussels's emblematic sites, in the Beaux-Arts style. In 1880, for Belgium's fiftieth anniversary, only the two side palaces, the base of the colonnades, and the arcade were completed. It is a classically styled "à la française" park, a large rectangle geometrically divided by beautiful rows of trees. Its wide paths delineate straight lawns bordered by hedges or adorned with flowerbeds and sculptures. Beyond the museums, the park forms a triangle centered on a vast pond with multiple fountains. The right side of the park is dedicated to social life. The left side is ideal for strolling and relaxing, with its benches, trained lime trees, and garden cabinets.

This family-run chip shop (since 1948) is the best known among Brussels residents and foreign visitors. It was awarded the title of "best fries in the world" by the New York Times. They are a little more expensive than average and other chip shops prepare them just as well; crispy and tasty, because they are cooked in beef fat. The big plus is that the establishment has an agreement with the bars in the square: you can therefore enjoy a beer and a cone of fries on the terrace of one of them !
